Honourable Minister of Labour, Comrade Chairman, leaders of the trade union movement, workers of Trinidad and Tobago, members of the media, allow me on behalf of the members and officers of the Banking, Insurance and General Workers Union, to bring salutations and greetings of solidarity to this massive celebration on this historic occasion of Labour Day, June 19th, 2010. As we remember the sterling contribution of the heroes of the 1930’s, we must recall that their struggle was anti-colonial and anti-imperialist in nature. It was a struggle for the advancement of the nation and for the rights of the working class. That struggle was met with brutality, oppression and incarceration of leaders of the working people. |
